Footballers win to start knock-out season

Footy (Demo)

Students from St Patrick’s Technical College and St Columba College clashed at Argana Park today in the first knock-out match of the 2016 season. In an extremely tight contest from start to finish, the StPatsTech Fighting Irish ran out winners by 2 points to progress to the second round.

Both sides looked evenly matched early on with both boasting strong on-ballers. At half-time StPatsTech led by a solitary point thanks to a strong defence led by McCue and Chase. Webb dominated the ruck after the first quarter to give on-ballers – Reynolds, Moseley and Joseph – first look at the footy. Burt presented beautifully all day and took a number of marks and was well supported by McGeorge, Mansell and Verrall. Kessner and Earle were sublime all day along the wings and competed well when the ball was in their area. Earle also boasted strong marking presence and goal-kicking prowess. The team was led well by Max Joseph and hopefully there will be another strong showing in our next match.

Thank you to my team manager, Mr Michael MacFarlane, boundary umpire, Josh Denton and the three players who were late call-ups.
