Mentoring Australia’s Apprentices Project (MAAP)
St Patrick’s Technical College is partnering with VETnetwork Australia in the Mentoring Australia’s Apprentices Project (MAAP).
This project is funded by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) through the Australian Apprentices Mentoring Package.
The MAAP has been created to increase participation, strengthen retention and raise the number of completions in Australian Apprenticeships.
MAAP Aim
The aim of the MAAP at St Patrick’s Technical College is to provide a structured mentoring program for students engaged in School-based Apprenticeships and for graduates in their first year of employment as Full-Time Apprentices.
How does MAAP work?
The MAAP works with VETnetwork Australia providing the administrative framework, formal training and support for a network of mentors linked with St Patrick’s Technical College.
Mentors for School-based Apprentices are College staff members, while mentors for College graduates are volunteers sourced via the College’s links with our local parishes and community groups (e.g. Rotary).
In this way we seek to work with members of our local community who have a desire to work with young people and share their own experiences and skills.
All mentors receive free training and support from VETnetwork Australia and participate in a thorough screening process before they are matched with a young apprentice. Screening includes an interview, police check and reference checks. Mentors receive ongoing support from the MAAP Project Coordinator to ensure that the ‘match’ is working for the benefit of the young apprentice.
How can I get involved?
