Congratulations to Year 11 Electrotechnology student Zaylin Poland for securing a place in the 2024 WorldSkills Australia – SA Regional Championship.
Zaylin will head to the PEER RTO Albert Park Main Trade Training Facility on Friday 23 August to compete against other VET in Schools students enrolled in PEER programs. Ten finalists from PEER’s 30 Electrotechnology classes, across 18 host schools, have been selected to take part in the competition based on their outstanding achievements in class pre-challenge events.
Throughout the state, the Electrotechnology secondary students completed a pre-challenge during their VET training. The task required students to complete safety documentation then install cable pathways, supports and electrical wiring from apparatus to a small switchboard following a diagram. Then ‘dead’ test and ‘live’ commission for a successful result.
Students were scored out of 100. Points were deducted based on safety documentation, wearing of PPE, housekeeping, correct selection and use of tools and materials, understanding wiring schematics, quality workmanship, understanding testing procedures, and energising an electrical installation.
We had five #StPatsTech students who performed extremely well with high scores and two students with full marks. Special mention to Bailey Robinson who did an outstanding job in the pre-challenge, receiving full marks along with Zaylin.
Zaylin will be competing this Friday in the championship against a select group of students, within a 3-hour time frame, to complete a successful electrical installation. All the best of luck Zaylin!
