Our Construction students have come to the aid of the Fred’s Van food service, putting in to practice one of the core values of the College – Service. Due to a surge in demand for food relief and people experiencing food insecurity, the dining space available at Fred’s Van in Elizabeth was no longer sufficient and required some upgrades and care.
Our Year 12 students hopped on the tools making repairs to the area (originally constructed by past students of the College), extended it further through the addition of extra tables, and added some much-needed lighting. A little gardening here and there, and voilà!
Fred’s Van provides warm, nutritious meals for people in our community experiencing homelessness or finding things a little tough. The College has been closely associated with Vinnies and the Fred’s Van food service for many years, providing general maintenance, cooked meals, and a student-led weekly BBQ outside the Elizabeth Vinnies Shop.
