The school sporting competition continued throughout June with students participating in knockout football and soccer matches. Shout-out to all participating students on your commitment and positive engagement.
The Open Boys Knockout Soccer team took to the field in Division 2 for Round 1 of the knockout competition. The first game against Salisbury East High School was a 2-0 loss for the College and the second game against Paralowie R-12 School a 5-0 loss. As a collective, the team participated with respect for all players consisting of students across different year levels and trades. There was varying degrees of experience with some students giving it a go despite never having played before.
Round 2 of the Open Boys Knockout Football saw the team travel up through the winding picturesque roads of the Adelaide Hills to Birdwood. The team took on Birdwood High in the decider to go through to Round 3 of the knockout tournament.
Unfortunately, it was clear from the first quarter that our side were up against a team that would do some damage. They kicked away very early, putting on a commanding lead to start the game. Despite this tall task, student spirits shone through and the team ended up playing three quarters of hard fought competitive football that saw them leave the ground with their heads held high, bringing back the margin to a very respectable final result. Overall, what an outstanding way to spend a day, building school culture and creating memories.
The Year 10 Knockout Soccer team participated in Division 2 for Round 1 of the Statewide Schools Knockout Competition, hosted by Xavier College at Two Wells.
The first game against Xavier College saw the players having to adjust to the wind that was strong, making it difficult to keep the ball on the ground. To their credit, students adapted quickly, creating some nice combinations with each other. They were rewarded with some goals in the first half, putting them in a strong position at half time, 4-0 up. The students were able to continue with the momentum and finish with a 6-1 WIN against Xavier College.
In the second game, our students competed strongly against Salisbury High School, despite only one substitute and using the weather conditions to their advantage. The team was 2-0 up at half time. In the second half, Salisbury used the wind to their advantage and were able to use this and their freshness at not having played back-to-back games by scoring a goal early and then winning 4-2, bringing the competition to a close. For some of our students, this was the first-time giving soccer a go. Well done to the team for your commitment and positive attitudes.
