Lock Out / Tag Out Electric Shock Prevention

2024 Electro LOTO_Hero

Lock Out / Tag Out (also known as LOTO) is a safety procedure for securely disconnecting equipment from energy sources to keep technicians safe before completing work. Our Year 11 Electrotechnology students have fabricated their own LOTO tag as part of their VET training with PEER trainer Tony, and will become an important asset in their toolbox.

When working on sites, a lockout procedure ensures equipment is disconnected from their energy source and does not power-up during maintenance or repair. Tagout requires a technician to tag a device out by attaching tags and locks on assets once the equipment has been isolated from its energy source. It prevents others from turning the equipment back on when maintenance is underway.

Students are practicing and ensuring circuits are locked out and tested for dead prior to any work commencing as part of LOTO procedures and practices.
